Outreach & Service

At St. Andrew's United Church of Christ, we take seriously our call to “love our neighbor as ourselves.” While few of us ever reach that goal, literally, we feel a strong obligation to direct a portion of our time and resources to responding to the needs and pain of those around us. In addition to projects related to “Our Church’s Wider Mission” (the UCC general mission program) there are a variety of opportunities for service in the local communities around us.

Currently, the most active outreach programs at St. Andrew's Church center around our support of our East Reading Food Pantry, located in St. Paul's Lutheran Church (ELCA), just a block from St. Andrew's Church, and our participation in the programming of the Council for United Church of Christ Ministry in Reading, a cooperative of the U.C.C. churches in of Reading.

For many years now, we have offered support to Habitat for Humanity. We also actively support other important mission and outreach efforts locally (as well as our support for mission nationally and internationally through Our Church's Wider Mission gifts for the United Church of Christ), including the homeless shelter, literacy council, backpacks and school supplies, the East Reading pool, and the Recreation Program's summer playground program for city children.

Opportunities for service are always developing and there are many places where YOU can make a difference. If you have an interest in participating in a service project, please contact St. Andrew's. We will be happy to inform you of opportunities which currently exist, or those which are in the process of forming.
