Outreach & Service

We take seriously our call to “love our neighbor as ourselves.” While few of us ever reach that goal, literally, we feel a strong obligation to direct a portion of our time and resources to responding to the needs and pain of those around us. In addition to projects related to “Our Church’s Wider Mission” (the UCC general mission program) there are a variety of opportunities for service in the local communities around us.

Currently, the most active local outreach programs at St. Andrew's Church include the sharing of our building with Restauracion de Fe congregation, maintaining our emergency food assistance shelf and supporting Helping Harvest, and support for Habitat for Humanity. We also actively support other important mission and outreach efforts locally (as well as our support for mission nationally and internationally through Our Church's Wider Mission gifts for the United Church of Christ), including Bethany Children's Home and the Phoebe-Berks Health Center.

Olivet Reformed Church supports Opportunity House (Reading's homeless shelter), the Salvation Army (providing outreach services to the needy in our community), Helping Harvest (our community food bank), and Bethany Children's Home in Womelsdorf.
