It is a challenging and exciting time ‘to be the church’. Churches are facing obstacles regardless of membership and financial resources. It is easy to be overwhelmed by these challenges and lose hope and focus. It is also the perfect time for churches to intentionally look at their resources and gifts. It is an exciting time for churches to look at what they do well and to focus on that.

I believe that together– as pastor and church members– we have choices. We can become overwhelmed by challenges, or we can embrace the opportunity that we have before us. I pray that we embrace our present and the future with honesty and hope.

I find myself reflecting on the words from Paul found in Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose (NIV).” In these words Paul reassures the Roman church that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to God's purpose. If you love God, you can trust that God is working for your good. God loves you back, and when we love people, we are responding to God’s purpose and love.

I pray that we -as pastor and church members- embrace the future with honesty and hope. I am grateful to be in ministry with you, as we rely on the goodness of God to carry us each and every day.
