Outreach & Service

At Grace (Alsace) United Church of Christ, we take seriously our call to “love our neighbor as ourselves.” While few of us ever reach that goal, literally, we feel a strong obligation to direct a portion of our time and resources to responding to the needs and pain of those around us. In addition to projects related to “Our Church’s Wider Mission” (the UCC mission program) there are a variety of opportunities for service in the local communities around us.
We sponsor a Venture Crew through the Boy Scouts of America. Membership in Venture Crew 194 is open to boys and girls of High School age. The Crew has chosen to be a community service crew.
Pictured here, our Venture Crew is helping with the annual "Scouting for Food" drive in which Boy Scout troops collect bags of food from their neighborhood and bring them to a collection site. Our Venture Crew helped operate the collection site at SAMs Club. The crew took the bags of food from the scouts, boxed the food and placed the boxed food on skids for pick-up by the Greater Berks Food Bank.
The church has also started serving breakfast at Opportunity House once a month. We have had a team in the American Cancer Society's Relay for life the past three or four years. We financially help organizations like Bethany Home, Phoebe Home, etc. The Venture Crew has helped with other organizations such as the Volunteer Nurses, Reading Beautification, etx.
