Ministry Programs

Emanuel United Church of Christ has expanded our ministry programs in recent years. We have an annual Backpack Sunday in August of each year, at which children from the congregation and the neighborhood receive a backpack with all the recommended school supplies. We also donate copier paper and other supplies to Bridesburg Elementary School.

Through H.O.M.E. (Homeless Outreach Ministry of Emanuel), Emanuel Church holds a monthly food distribution to the homeless of our community during April through December of each year. We've also donated disaster relief cleanup buckets for Church World Service.

Emanuel United Church of Christ is an active participant in the Bridesburg Council of Churches. Through the Bridesburg Council's food cupboard, we provide assistance to individuals and families in need, and also host community Lenten worship services, participate in annual community health fairs, support Easter activities for children, and in other ways seek to improve the quality of life in Bridesburg. Emanuel Church also offers food assistance on request.

Emanuel Church has opened our doors to the use of community groups.
- - The Second Chance Kinship Network, which works to place at-risk children and youth with extended family members, with an eventual goal of reunion with parents, has designated Emanuel Church as a counseling site. For more information, please check out the website:
- - We have also hosted fundraisers for juvenile diabetes research and suicide prevention.

Emanuel UCC and one of its early pastors, Emanuel Boehringer, were instrumental in creating Bethany Children’s Home. Founded in 1863 as a place of refuge for orphans of Civil War veterans, Bethany Children’s Home now offers a warm, nurturing environment to at-risk children and youth on its spacious, well-tended campus in Womelsdorf, PA, just west of Reading. Our congregation cherishes our historic ties to this important ministry of the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ.

Over the years our social hall space has been used by many community groups, some of which are named above. If your group is interested in using the facilities at Emanuel, please email the church at

Through our financial support of the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference and the national setting of the United Church of Christ, we bring help and hope in the name of Jesus Christ to needy persons and hurting situations across the country and around the globe.
