Church History

St. John’s United Church of Christ was founded in 1794 and its building was constructed by the sons of John Gernant. “Set on a hill that cannot be hid,” St. John’s Gernant’s has overlooked the beautiful Berks County countryside and served the community of Leesport for over 200 years.

The church building is full of stained glass windows and has a beautiful mural of Jesus in the garden before the soldiers came to take him away. The Memorial Grove was planted in 1936 and is now the site of Memorial Hall built in 1995.

Today St. John’s is a healthy and vibrant congregation of all ages engaged in ministry to the members, the community and the world. The beautiful historic building and grounds are often used to host musical groups, fellowship dinners and other community events. We hope that you will come join in our fellowship and give thanks for the many ways in which God has blessed our lives.
