Pastor’s Message—May 20, 2020

Dear Church Members and Friends,

On Sunday, May 17th, our Church Council voted to extend the cancellation of all in-church gatherings through June 30th. This decision was based on the governor’s safer-at-home order in place at that time. The situation, however, is changing rapidly. As of Monday, May 18th, the governor had announced a gradual re-opening of churches in the month of June. No specifics were given, leaving the re-opening guidelines up to the mayor’s office. We will continue to monitor this extremely fluid situation and provide updates as they become available.

Our Church Re-open Task Force (CRTF) is currently in discussions to prepare for the eventual re-opening of our church campus. But it is important to remember that it may take months before the virus is completely eradicated. Therefore, safety for our members and visitors is our main priority. We will not reopen our doors until we feel confident that the church has taken all the necessary precautions to ensure our campus is a safe environment for everyone. The members of our CRTF are Dr. Alan Garcia, Dr. Vanessa Rosenbush, Sevy Tolentino, Sr., Ross Tamane, Dale Andres, Laurie Oishi, and Pastor Scott.

If you have any questions for the CRTF, please email them to me at revscott.wucc@gmail.com.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Scott Furukawa

*** Scam Email From "Fake Rev. Furukawa" ***
Dear Church Family,

Someone posing as me is sending emails out asking for monies and gift cards to be sent to cancer patients. This is a scam. I am not making any such requests. Do not send any monies or gift cards. Disregard and delete this type of emails. If you have any questions, email me directly at revscott.wucc@gmail.com.

Be safe.

Pastor Scott

Welcome to Waialua United Church of Christ! We're glad that you have found us and we hope you will join us to worship God. Here you will find a warm and welcoming community of believers. We have been worshipping and serving in this area since 1901. Today, we continue reflecting Christ's love through our multi-cultural, multi-generational community. In 1988, a beautiful sanctuary and administration building were dedicated, and in 2002 a social hall, classrooms and offices were added. At Waialua UCC we believe that building community is at the heart of Christ's gospel. So, come be challenged and refreshed, and find a place where YOU can make a difference in the world. You'll be glad that you did!
